Lyrics are part sport and part visual art. As sport, the act of clarifying thoughts and crafting lyrical lines and phrases demands strategy, focus, and action. As art, it requires shaping vague thoughts into a visual and tangible form that reflect elements of human emotion.

For me, it’s become the most thought-provoking aspect of my artistic journey. Some lyrics come quickly and reveal themselves as if having a conversation with a friend. Other lyrics are wrought with struggle and require days to determine the best words to deliver the song’s core message.

Below are some of my song lyrics as I realize not all words are clearly heard when surrounded by a full musical production. Please don’t read too much into my ramblings, as humor seeps into my thoughts more often than not.

ALBUM LYRICS

  • Time and space fade away

    Feel the beat of drums

    Mind and heart run astray

    Hear the sound of voices

    (repeat)

  • I hitch a ride with you on a carnival train

You stare me down, then the merries go round in my brain

    Your spell is mesmerizing

You say sit back, relax, enjoyriding

I’m getting taken, this horse is breaking

I got a thing for you that I can’t undo

You set the stage to execute your coup

A story as old as time

The spectators laugh as they watch me, watch me, watch me unwind

They set up the tents, the rides, and the cons outside Reno

You dance for tips in back of a mobile casino

Goon puts his hand on your thigh

I rare back and black his eye

The trailer is quaking, this horse is breaking

I got a thing for you that I can’t undo

You set the stage to execute your coup

A story as old as time

The spectators gasp as they watch me, watch me, watch me unwind

We’re making love under the stars

Headlights approach, some long black cars

Goon wants revenge, is this where it ends?

    Lights out!

They left me here on the side of a desert highway

Naked and beaten, a run over rattler coiled sideways

    Why should I stand surprised

Just stick out my thumb and ditch my pride

Train’s left the station, but this horse is breaking

I got a thing for you that I can’t undo

You set the stage to execute your coup

    A story lost in time

The spectators scoff as they watch me, watch me, watch me … unwind

  • In the spotlight

    Lives the hot life

Where you must stand on your own

    Half protected

    Half rejected

You turn your heart into stone

    In the spotlight

    Lives the taut hype

Your life is never your own

    Now ends your charade

    How your star fades

Rise up or die all alone

  • Turn on the juice and start this record spinnin’

We’re lettin’ loose, it’s only the beginnin’

Lockstep in rhythm, a tango beat for two

You’re the tweedle in my tune

And I’m the needle in your groove

Tempo’s just right to get these bottoms shakin’

We walk the tightrope, acrobats awakened

Toes ‘cross the dance floor, a ballet impromptu

You’re the tweedle in my tune

And I’m the needle in your groove

One more sashay or two more fancy steps

We hang together, a pair of marionettes

You pull my strings girl, swing’em fro and to

‘Cause you’re the tweedle in my tune

And I’m the needle in your groove

  • On the longboard

    That's how we ride

    On the longboard

    Standing ten toes high

Feature Lyric

Sea’s Beautiful Daughters

When Sun says wake up, a new day

He breaks through our slumbering haze

We rise to greet the waters

Sea’s beautiful daughters, her waves

Then Sky draws a breath, Sea replies

The wind and the waves harmonize

Three daughters swell, demoiselles

We dance atop their glass heaven high

When Sun says goodbye to the day

And Sea begs us catch her last wave

We surf into the shoreline

And witness Sky’s deep reds turning gray

Then Moon says hello to the night

We bathe in her beams silv’ry white

While Sea retreats in reverie

The mem’ry of her waves holds us tight
